Number of Cancer patients in the southern Iraqi city Nasyria, Thi Qar province has doubled in comparison to other regions

A specialist at Al-Husain Educational Hospital in Nasyria city Thi Qar province; revealed that recent studies conducted on cancer diseases indicate that the number of cases have doubled in southern parts of Iraq in comparison to other areas. Dr. Mithaq Abed Al-Mahdi said to Nasyria News Net that cancer diseases have increased abnormally all over Iraq due to continuous wars and especially to the depleted uranium used in the 1991 Gulf war.

 

These studies also indicate that the number of leukemia patients especially in the southern areas of Iraq have doubled in comparison to other provinces. Dr. Methaq pointed out to a very important fact and that neither Al Hussain Hospital nor province have a proper health care system  in cancer diagnose and treatment; therfore the region needs urgently a specializes center for Cancer treatment which can aslo provide scientific statistics and surveys of incidence.

 

Dr. Abed Al-Mahdi has called, specifically upon the concernd parties in the province to build this center equipped with full specialized cadres.

 

 It is noteworthy that most of cancer patients in Thi Qar province have to travel under difficult conditions to the Educational hospital at the neighboring city of Basra to seek diagnose treatment which might be too late for the cancer patient.
